Position Summary
The General Manager will oversee all operational, financial, and strategic aspects of the organization’s Phoenix branch. This includes full P&L responsibility, team leadership, and the continuous enhancement of a positive, growth-oriented culture. You will be responsible for expanding market share, strengthening client relationships, and implementing innovative strategies to position the company as a top choice for luxury landscaping services.
A key aspect of this role involves transitioning the company toward more efficient, profit-focused operations while maintaining vital client relationships. The GM will coordinate with existing design and project managers to ensure smooth scheduling, modernized processes, and balanced workloads across Maintenance, Enhancements, and Projects.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute strategies to capture a greater share of the high-end residential market.
- Cultivate relationships with custom home builders, architects, and other referral sources to increase design-build project volume.
- Enhance brand visibility via digital marketing and social media to showcase the company’s exceptional projects.
- Explore strategies to diversify lead generation beyond any single source, reducing dependency on individual designers while preserving strong client relationships.
Operational Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day operations with a keen eye toward efficiency, quality control, and project excellence.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting with full P&L oversight, ensuring the company meets or exceeds financial objectives.
- Drive best practices in scheduling, resource allocation, and client service to sustain high-quality standards.
- Implement modern technologies and processes that streamline projects and enhance profitability, addressing inefficiencies in project execution and administrative tasks.
Team & Culture Development
- Inspire a collaborative, accountable work environment where every team member is motivated to excel.
- Recruit, mentor, and coach talent, fostering continuous professional development.
- Champion clear communication, constructive feedback, and a positive, solution-focused mindset among all staff.
- Facilitate cultural transformation from a historically family-oriented model to a profit-focused approach, while retaining a supportive environment. Encourage openness to change and promote effective use of updated systems.
Client & Partner Engagement
- Strengthen relationships with high-net-worth clients, ensuring that each project reflects meticulous attention to detail.
- Build alliances with industry partners—including builders, landscape architects, and design professionals—to generate steady pipelines of new opportunities.
- Act as a brand ambassador, showcasing the company’s success through strategic networking, community involvement, and consistent market presence.
- Maintain confidence among existing high-end clientele, including those brought in through the founder’s extensive network, while introducing new marketing and enhancement initiatives.
Strategic Growth & Innovation
- Identify and implement new service offerings and market opportunities, staying current on luxury design-build trends and customer preferences.
- Integrate innovative ideas and sustainable practices into the company’s landscaping solutions, reinforcing a forward-thinking reputation.
- Continuously refine internal processes to improve customer experience, project turnaround times, and profitability.
- Align all teams (Maintenance, Enhancements, Projects) under a cohesive strategy that addresses recurring operational issues, fosters revenue growth, and mitigates any reliance on a single person’s design pipeline.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Industry Expertise: Extensive knowledge of design-build landscaping, including construction, horticulture, and high-end maintenance services.
- Leadership & Management: Demonstrated success in leading teams, developing culture, and promoting a positive work environment.
- Financial Acumen: Proven experience with P&L management, forecasting, and strategic budgeting in a multi-million-dollar setting.
- Business Development Skills: Familiarity with marketing, social media, and relationship-building in upscale or luxury markets.
- Client-Centric Mindset: Adept at meeting the needs of discerning, detail-oriented clientele.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Horticulture, or a related field (preferred). Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Landscape Industry Certified) are a plus.
